Deviation Actions
As promised, here's a recap of the ideas gathered in the comments to my previous entry. If these 'rules' seem alright to you, I'll make an official-real-super-duper entry to be linked to whenever we need to have a look at said rules.
1. Folders in the Gallery: Traditional, Digital, Photography, Photomanipulation, Literature, Crafts. (Do you see any other potential medium to be added here? I don't mean detailed specifics—no "Raster" and "Vector" sub-galleries in the Digital art gallery, for instance—but different main media.)
1a. A folder for specific "old farts" art Pieces/comic strips (humoristic or not) about us being so old and wise and all.
1b. A "mature deviations" folder: Not sure if we could do sub-galleries depending on genres in there, so maybe let's not worry about that. But the idea, anyway, is of a folder specifically for more mature works.
2. A monthly theme: Not as a contest, just as an ongoing theme to help people decide on what to submit, and/or encourage them to create new pieces of art. Those would be generic enough themes, like "Love", "Family"... (not "Draw a midget running in a field of grass at sunset" ).
3. Quality control: The intent here is not to have an elitist-negative attitude, of course. According to suggestions, it'd be more like: no 5-minute sketches, drawings on lined paper, cell phone shots, non-cleaned scans... Basically: anything that doesn't look like "finished" work wouldn't be accepted.
3a. Skill level: Do we want a certain skill level only, one that would "come with old age only"? How to define that? (And what about, for instance, people who've started doing art at a later age only, and thus are 'beginners' although they're 40?)
3b. Voting process: If we implement quality control, it means I can't be the only one to decide (that wouldn't be very fair, would it?). But I can't seem to find a feature to allow regular members to vote on what is submitted. I could make a blog post regularly to show what's been submitted and is awaiting approval, and ask you advice, but that'd be too tedious a process. So I see three methods:
+ We set a specific amount of votes needed for a deviation to be accepted, some of you become Contributors, and you just have to vote (no additional work).
+ I set it so that submissions are automatically approved, but I reserve myself the right to remove something if it really doesn't fit (someone submitting a quick sketch on lined paper, for example)—and you can also point out "that deviation doesn't fit, can we remove it?"
+ We limit ourselves, for the moment at least, to a general "no unfinished works" rules, and I'll just approve submissions (or not) depending on that criterion.
3c. From these also stems the possiblity of a WIP folder: one where you can submit works in progress/unfinished works to get critique on them, ideas about how to go on, etc. Anything that you'd wish to get a piece of advice on before finishing them. It'd be the only folder where people could put non-finished works.
4. A limited amount of submissions per month or week: Those would be free submissions, automatically accepted. Then, if you want to submit something else, people have to vote on it. (But I'm not sure if there's an automated process for that, so if you want it implemented, we may have to do it all manually, with you sending the group notes to submit a new piece, and so on.)
4a. Other idea: 1 submission in each category a week/month + 1 submission to a "theme-of-the-month folder". Mybe the Themes of the Month could be the works going into Featured rather than subfolders?
5. The tricky question of fanart: This point was raised in the comments, so here goes. I think that when we talk about 'fanart', the idea that springs to mind immediately is of anime fanart, too often badly done, with a definite "i've just learned how to doodle" feeling; I'm not throwing the stone, because that's what comes to mind for me as well. On the other hand, there *are* very nice, professional-looking works around here, that are technially fanart because, well, they feature characters that aren't the artists's. Therefore: do you want a rule about that? No fanart at all? Create a specific folder for that? Or no rule, and we treat those works just like we do the other ones?
(I don't have anything against fanart, by the way; I very seldom do it, but I draw a lot of original characters in worlds that aren't my own, so I guess I'm sort of borderline here. And although I feel that one should end up doing his/her own works in the end, I find it's also a way of working on your techniques.)
For the moment, what seems to garner more attention is 1) gallery folders, and 2) monthly themes. I think these are things we can implement right off the bat without too many problems.
As for the rest of those tentative rules, do you have additional advice/opinions to express?

Monthly theme - October 2011
Who are we? | Submission guidelines
Sorry for the delay, the beginning of this month was quite hectic for me...
Submissions for the October theme are now closed. Let's vote to see which one of the submitted pictures gets into the Featured folder. :)
The vote will go from November 9th to November 13th. If you wish to vote, please send a note to the group, titled "VOTE ______" (where ______ is the name of the artist).
Here are the submitted pictures:

Monthly theme - October 2010
Who are we? | Submission guidelines
Sorry for the lack of updates here, life's been throwing me lemons, and I've been quite busy making lemonade. :p However, I sure do hope that now that I'm back into a somewhat normal way of living (having basic conveniences such as hot water and electricity helps), I'll be able to do some more things here.
Monthly themes first. August's theme wasn't met with much success, so let's drop it and jump to October's theme. I'm going to be oh so original, and I hereby declare that the theme will be:
*.._.-_~ HALLOWEEN ~_-._..*
You can interpret it as you wish, and you can submit either a new or an already exis

I'm heading out for a short week of internetless holidays (good thing, if you ask me!) in a couple of hours, so before I go and remain unavailable, here's the theme for August—chosen totally at random, I admit:
*.._.-_~ MASK ~_-._..*
You can interpret it as you wish, and you can submit either a new or an already existing deviation. You have until August 31st to submit your piece in this gallery, after which we'll organize a vote to

Oh, I totally forgot - yes, a submission limit would be a good idea. IMO for the start maybe 1 submission per folder and artist, but that could be changed too. Frankly, today I felt a bit hit to death by all of those photographs that were submitted, especially as I had the feeling they were more taken from the family album and I missed the artistic aspects there -_-' So one per day would be fine IMO, but not dozens in a heap, please!
